FTC spyware settlement affects 18 million

A day after the Federal Trade Commission announced its second-biggest settlement against two California companies accused of spreading malicious spyware to more than 18 million computer users worldwide, industry analysts and the government acknowledge they face an uphill battle trying to contain the problem.  In the last two years, the agency has been involved in more than $8 million in settlements with more than a dozen companies accused of running spyware operations. The latest, announced Wednesday, involved a $2 million settlement against Enternet Media Inc., Conspy & Co. Inc., Lida Rohbani, Nima Hakimi and Baback Hakimi.
