State Attorneys General Trained on HIPAA

Are you asking yourself what is a HIPAA violation?  The first thing we need to look into is what HIPAA really is.  HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.  Basically is what that means is that HIPAA enforces the rules that help make sure that our information is safe and protected when we aren’t in charge of keeping an eye on it.  Any of your medical files need to be taken care of properly by your medical offices in order to protect your information.  This covers everything from keeping them in a safe environment, whether online or off, making sure that no one has access to them that shouldn’t, all the way to making sure that when they are done with your records they dispose of them properly.

State Attorneys General have been trained in different states back in 2011.  This was a way to make sure they were aware of all policies and guidelines associated with HIPAA in order to The words Compliance, Rules, Regulations and Guidelines on colorprosecute any violations.  Not everyone is on board with pursuing the prosecution of HIPAA violations though.  The plan was to try and get as many people involved as possible in order to really help tighten up the compliance and reassure everyone that their documents are secure.  Especially now that everything is digital, it can be a little nerve wrecking not knowing whether or not your documents are truly secure.  Not everyone is interested due to different priorities when it comes to their cases, and also how HIPAA guidelines are already being followed pretty well by most providers.
