| The HIPAA Failure |
HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is now over five years old and the only way to describe it is toothless. After 20,000 the the department of Health and Human Services (HHS) there have been no fines and only two prosecutions.
It appears the HHS has no intention of protecting the privacy of your health records. The result is more medical identity theft. And the health industry is well aware that there is no need to fear a toothless law. Compliance among companies has dropped every year and is now down to only 39%.
During this holiday week let the new congress know that you would like HIPAA enforced and your information kept private.

| Illegal immigration and Identity Theft |
People looking for work at the Swift plants used stolen Social Security numbers to gain employment. U.S. immigration officials intending to do their jobs used identity theft laws meant for a far more serious crimes as justification for the crackdown.
Is this really how we want identity theft laws used? Tamar Jacoby, an immigration expert recently wrote that "every year the economy as a whole creates about 500,000 more unskilled jobs than Americans want to do, yet we issue only 5,000 year-round visas for the immigrants who might fill them."
Lets fix the immigration problem with immigration laws and leave identity theft laws for people doing far worse than looking for work.
