17 Charged in International ID Theft Ring
Authorities have arrested and charged 17 individuals in connection with an international identity theft ring operating out of New York. Authorities believe the group trafficked more than 95,000 stolen credit card numbers. The left is estimated at $35 million.
A company operating as Western Express International is charged with running websites where stolen credit card numbers were bought and sold. Those indicted had various roles in the theft ring.

Millions of computers around the world are set up on file-sharing networks like LimeWire. People do this to share digital content including music and movies (or steal depending on your perspective).
However, when these are set up incorrectly they may be sharing more than their users know. Thieves troll through on-line computers to see if they can download personal information including passwords and bank account numbers. This information is then used to commit fraud.
