ChoicePoint has settled with the Attorneys General of 44 states stemming from their data breach disclosed in 2005. People had accessed the ChoicePoint data by impersonating legitimate businesses.
The consumer data provider has agreed to adopt significantly stronger security measures , including written certification and, in some cases, onsite visits before giving out personally identifiable information.
ChoicePoint will also pay a total of $500,000 to the states to use for public education campaigns about identity theft.

| SPAM King Arrested on Identity Theft Charges |
 |
|
SPAM king Robert Alan Soloway, has been arrested on charges of mail fraud, wire fraud, e-mail fraud, aggravated identity theft and money laundering.
Like most spammers Soloway used infected computers or "zombies" to send out SPAM e-mail. These are generally home computers whose owners typically have no idea that their computers have been infected with viruses. Internet Service Providers (ISPs)can't easily block messages from zombies because they are mixed in with legitimate messages.
It is unknown if the zombies are still sending out SPAM but my inbox has seen little change.
