Antispyware Bill Advances in House

Four years ago congress promised us a bill to help prevent spyware. And as these things often go no such bill has been signed into law yet. But a new bill may change that.

Representatives.Zoe Lofgren of California and Bob Goodlatte of Virginia reintroduced the measure, known as the Internet Spyware Prevention Act, or I-Spy. The bill proposes up to five years in prison for malicious spyware-related activities.

Similar versions passed the House by overwhelming margins in the past two congressional sessions but died in committee in the Senate.

Officials Pinpoint Source of TJX Databreach

Investigators into the largest data theft in recent memory at TJX now believe hackers stole the information though an insecure wireless network at a store.

Hackers pointed a telescope-shaped antenna toward the store and used a laptop computer to decode data between hand-held price-checking devices, cash registers and the store's computers. This data helped them hack into the central database TJX Cos. in Framingham, Massachusets.

Once in the central database they stole information from thousands of customers. The information is known to have been used in Florida.
