| FTC Issues Data Security Guidebook |
 |

The Federal Trade Commission has published a guidebook for data security. The guidebook has recommendations for business and agencies of all sizes.
Data security plans have to be tailored to the size of an organization, said Deborah Platt Majoras, chair of the FTC. "There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all data security plan."
But if you are looking for exact specifications you may be disappointed. "Because technologies change over time, imposing some very specific technical standard which we then carve into stone would soon become obsolete or have unintended consequences ... like stunting innovation," added Majoras.

| Do Your Employees Have Too Much Access? |

Not to long ago, in a town near you; a woman was hired to help with receptionist duties, accounting, invoicing and filing at a small shipping company. Shortly after being hired she started calling in sick.
When out, packages addressed to unknown people started showing up. Her boss sent them back but was told by a delivery person that they were part of a fraud investigation.
He fired receptionist but not before she dug through employee records to steal identities and open credit card accounts. And why all the absences? She needed her sick days to appear in court on other identity theft charges.
