Identity Theft form the Copier
What information is a copy machine keeping about you?
Modern office copy machines have hard drives that keep a copy of every document that is faxed, scanned or copied. That can be 20,000 documents stored in one machine.
While in a secure place this isn't a problem. However, when the copier is replaced the old one is sent to an electronics recycler. They may refurbish and sold or taken apart to recover precious metals. If they do not erase the hard drives then all the images from the previous owner are still there.
Your doctor, lawyer or accountant my be unwittingly exposing your personal information. Whenever you replace the office copier make sure the hard drives are erased by you or the recycling company. [article]
