James Smith looked out his front window to a stream of paper in his front yard. When he went out to find out what where it came from he discovered they were student records for nearby Hyatt High School. The files included expulsion forms, behavior reports, detention notifications and school bus behavior reports. Under school board privacy policy these documents should only be available to students, their parents, and authorized school personnel unless by a subpoena.
Apparently the files blew out of a dumpster full of private school records. News of the files spread and many people showed up to dig through the dumpster. The crowd uncovered grade books, student records, and bank statements.
It might be time for Hyatt High School to hire a shredding service and recycle the paper instead of spreading it across the neighborhood.
